The university determines opening or closing of physical buildings and operations

  • The university determines whether facilities are closed, for any reason, and the status of university operations.
  • In accordance with Virginia Tech plans for fall semester 2020, our building, the Smith Career Center, will be open during office hours effective Monday, August 3, 2020. All services through Career and Professional Development will continue to be offered by phone, Zoom, email, and virtual presentations.
  • If the university is closed, Career and Professional Development is closed.

Sources for university status and whether facilities are open

Workshops, presentations

  • If university operations are closed, for any reason, any event scheduled to occur during that closing would not be held.
  • If a specific, scheduled event is cancelled, this will be noted in the event listing for the specific event. See our events page.

Career fairs

  • If university operations are closed, for any reason, any event scheduled to occur during that closing would not be held.
  • Career fairs sponsored by Career and Professional Development:
If we cancel a career fair that we sponsor, we will note this in the career fair listing, and will notify registered employers.
  • There are many VT-affiliated career fairs that are NOT sponsored by Career and Professional Development. Each event is sponsored by a college, or a department, or a student organization, and CPD has no control over those events. To learn about any possible cancellations or rescheduling, you should place reliance upon the information you receive from that event sponsor and their event website.
