In the context of Campus internEXP, wage matching is defined as:

  • Program Wage Matching for positions that do not meet the criteria for IBM Wage Matching and hired students that ARE NOT eligible for Federal Work Study (FWS)
  • Federal Work Study Wage Matching for hired students that ARE eligible for and have accepted their Federal Work Study, or
  • IBM Wage Matching for eligible positions and students who ARE eligible for and have accepted their Federal Work Study

Program Wage Matching

If interested, your position will be considered for Program Wage Matching based on the following criteria that takes into account our commitment to providing a diverse range of internship opportunities to students:

  • Completion of application
  • Strength of job description
  • Diversity in career field and industry category
  • Departmental financial need
  • Preference will be given to newly developed internships

Program Wage Matching covers 50% of a non-FWS student’s wages to work for 10 hours a week for 15 weeks a semester at $13 per hour ($975 per semester).

IBM Wage Matching

If your position can be categorized into one of the following Career Pathways:

  • Technology, Engineering, and Manufacturing
  • Data Analytics, Cybersecurity, and Information Technology
  • Architecture and Construction

AND you are interested in/open to hiring a student who has accepted their Federal Work Study (guaranteed 75% wage match for students with FWS)

THEN your position will be considered for the IBM Wage Matching which will pay 25% of a FWS student’s wages to work for 10 hours a week for 15 weeks a semester at $13 per hour ($487.50 per semester).

Federal Work Study (FWS) Student Wage Matching

If the student that you hire is eligible for and accepts their Federal Work Study, you are guaranteed a 75% wage match for that student (you are only responsible for 25% of that student’s wages).

Disclaimers: If qualified, only ONE student per supervisor will be awarded Program Wage Matching. If your position is approved and does not meet the criteria for Program or IBM Wage Matching, AND your hired student does not qualify for Federal Work Study, you are responsible for paying 100% of the student’s wages. Wage matching is not available in the Summer and may not apply for all terms. Contact program manager for more details.

Please attend a Supervisor Information Session or email CampusinternEXP@vt.edu to learn more about Campus internEXP and wage matching.
