iris Photo Booth

Career and Professional Development (CPD) is pleased to offer free professional photos to Virginia Tech students using our Iris booth. The booth is located on the 2nd floor of Smith Career Center, 870 Washington Street, SW (across from McComas). Photos can be used for your Handshake profile, LinkedIn profile, or anywhere you need to represent yourself professionally.

Faculty/Staff appointments can be made by signing up here.

Appointments are available Monday – Friday, 8:05am – 12pm.

Students can continue making appointments via Handshake.

Appointments are available Monday – Friday, 1:15pm – 4:45pm.

The Iris booth is a self-service concept, but CPD staff is always available to offer assistance as needed. Students will have access to the booth by appointment only, Monday-Friday, 9:00am-4:oopm (fall and spring). You can make your appointment in Handshake.

To get a professional photo:

  • Make a 15 minute appointment in Handshake for the iris Professional Photo Booth
  • Arrive professionally dressed to Smith Career Center a few minutes before your appointment
  • Proceed to the 2nd floor of Smith Career Center and check-in with the kiosk near the booth
  • When it’s time for your appointment, enter the iris booth, touch the screen to activate then follow the prompts
  • The booth will take a series of 3 photographs. You must take all 3 in order for your session to save properly in the system
  • You can will have the option to retake and/or edit your photos
  • Photos are emailed to you after your session is complete, and you can edit them at a later time
  • There’s no limit to how often you can book appointments throughout the year, however, repeated no-shows may be blocked for the remainder of the semester at the discretion of CPD staff

iris FAQs

This service is free to Virginia Tech students.

Yes. In order to ensure the booth is available when you arrive, you must schedule a 15 minutes appointment in Handshake. Appointments should be made at least 24 hours in advance.

You will take a series of 3 photos in each session. You can retake a photo during the session, if necessary.

Once you enter the booth, the entire session will take about 5-7 minutes.

There is currently no limit to how many appointments you can schedule to use iris. Please note that repeated no-shows may result in your account being blocked from iris appointments for the remainder of the semester.

If you need to cancel your iris appointment, please go to your appointment in Handshake or call our office at 540-231-6241, if you are unable to cancel in Handshake.
