Campus internEXP at Virginia Tech is honored to be one of the 161 employers recognized in the state. This annual award recognizes Virginia employers who create meaningful, hands-on learning experiences for students through mentorship, access to leadership, and opportunities to build in-demand, real-world skills.
This award is presented by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV). Full details can be found in their press release from April 1, 2026. Virginia Tech has received this recognition for four consecutive years, with Campus internEXP highlighted specifically this year—underscoring the strength of the program and the campus-wide partnerships that make it possible.
The Impact
Campus internEXP continues to expand its impact by connecting students with meaningful, paid internship opportunities across campus. The program’s recent growth reflects both strong student interest and the ongoing commitment of campus partners to providing hands-on, career-building experiences.
By the numbers (Summer 2025, Fall 2025, Spring 2026):
- 132 internship positions offered across the program
- 50+ campus offices and units hosted interns (some within the same department)
- 70 supervisors within those 50+ offices
- 78 internship postings, with some roles hiring multiple students
- 2,064 total applications submitted by students

“Campus internEXP has seen tremendous growth over the past five years since its launch. Since Fall 2021, the program has expanded from 18 internships to 104 in Spring 2026.
