Student Celebration and Awards Ceremony

Student of the Year: This award is granted to the iGROW@VirginiaTech student who has displayed excellent professional growth, and execution of their assigned role. This student was able to achieve these accomplishments through engaging their unique set of strengths, developing their 7 Professional Competencies, and going above and by leaving a lasting impact on the position, the people that they worked with during their experience, and the greater Virginia Tech community.

Supervisor of the Year: This award is granted to the iGROW@VirginiaTech supervisor who demonstrates the ability to go above and beyond in their student’s professional and career development throughout their student’s experience. This supervisor displays this ability through regular meetings with their student, providing the student with the necessary resources needed to excel in their position, a focusing on developing their student’s 7 Professional Competencies, and a commitment to the core principals of iGROW@VirginiaTech. 

Intern of the Year: This award is granted to a Campus internEXP student intern who has displayed outstanding drive and talent during their internship experience this year. This student has gone above and beyond to learn new and relevant workplace skills as well as build skills in Career and Professional Development’s 7 Professional Competencies. This student also has a great understanding of their strengths and how to leverage them in the workplace, communicates effectively with colleagues, and understands and respects the importance of diversity in the workplace. Most importantly, this student has had a lasting impact on their office/department/unit and Virginia Tech as a whole.

Supervisor of the Year: This award is granted to a Campus internEXP supervisor who displayed outstanding teaching, coaching and mentoring skills over the last year. This supervisor caringly and effectively provided feedback to their student intern to help them grow and develop as both a person and a professional. They also supported and encouraged their student’s professional development by understanding the student’s career and personal goals.

Student of the Year: This award is granted to a Cooperative Education and Internship Program student who has displayed outstanding drive and talent during their co-op/intern experience. This student has gone above and beyond to deliver results, contribute to a project, develop new and relevant workplace skills (including Career and Professional Development’s 7 Professional Competencies). This student also has a great understanding of their strengths and how to leverage them in the workplace. Most importantly, this student exemplifies the goals of work-integrated learning which includes setting learning goals, reflecting on experience, and connecting experience to academic study and/or future career goals.

Supervisor of the Year: This award is granted to a Cooperative Education and Internship Program (CEIP) supervisor who supported their co-op/interns’ professional development through outstanding coaching and/or mentoring, providing opportunities for the development of professional and technical skills, meeting regularly with their co-op/intern and providing feedback on performance, helping the student work toward achieving their learning objectives, and assigning meaningful tasks and projects to help the student gain valuable experience in the field and network with other professionals in or out of the organization.

This award is given to a student who excels in articulating thoughts and expressing ideas effectively using oral, written, visual and non-verbal communication skills, as well as listening to gain understanding. This student demonstrates the ability to consistently and effectively deliver information in person, in writing, and in a digital world.

This award is given to a student who goes above and beyond to build and maintain collaborative relationships to work effectively with others in a team setting through shared responsibility, empathy and respect. This student is consistently able to effectively manage their emotions and conflicts with others while contributing towards a common goal. 

This award is given to a student who excels in leveraging their strengths to motivate, collaborate and guide others. This student radiates a positive attitude that influences and empowers others to reach a shared goal through strategic thinking and effective decision-making. 

This award is given to a student who demonstrates standout integrity, resilience, accountability and ethical behavior. This student excels in taking initiative and maintaining effective work habits (prioritizing, planning and managing work) to produce high quality results while projecting a professional presence.

This award is given to a student who exercises exceptional reasoning to analyze issues, synthesize information, make decisions and solve problems. This student consistently demonstrates the ability to think critically and strategically to develop original and innovative ideas and solutions. 

This award is given to a student who demonstrates an exceptional ability to appreciate, value and learn from other cultures and perspectives.

This award is given to a student who consistently maximizes new and emerging technologies in order to work, learn and live in a digital society. This student goes above and beyond to apply digital technology to enhance quality, improve productivity and communication, solve problems and streamline processes.
