The Golf Course Maintenance Worker is an hourly position responsible for assisting the Golf Course Superintendent with the the upkeep and maintenance of the Virginia Tech 9-hole golf course. This is a hands-on, outdoor position that performs routine maintenance tasks to help provide a safe, attractive, and high-quality golf experience.
Job Schedule: Dependable attendance and the ability to report to work on time, including for early-morning and occasional weekend shifts.
Job Functions:
- Mow greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and other maintained areas using appropriate equipment.
- Assist with changing hole locations, moving tee markers, maintaining bunkers, and preparing the course for daily play.
- Assist with the maintenance of landscaping, trees, shrubs, flower beds, natural areas, and other golf course grounds.
- Operate hand tools, utility vehicles, mowers, trimmers, blowers, and other golf course maintenance equipment.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Ability to perform physically demanding work outdoors for extended periods.
- Ability to work independently after receiving direction.
- Ability to safely operate or learn to operate golf course maintenance equipment and utility vehicles.
- Dependable attendance and the ability to report to work on time, including for early-morning and occasional weekend shifts.
- Upon hire, employees will be required to take online training courses administered through Virginia Tech Environmental Health & Safety.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in landscaping, grounds maintenance, agriculture, turf management, construction, equipment operation, or a related field.
- Experience operating commercial mowing or grounds-maintenance equipment.
- Basic knowledge of turfgrass care, irrigation systems, or golf course operations.
- Familiarity with the game of golf and typical golf course conditions.
Pay Rate: $15/hour
