Begun by R. Emmett Tyrrell, Jr. on the campus of Indiana University in Bloomington in 1967, The American Spectator has had an unrivaled impact on the conservative movement. The list of contributors to The American Spectator is remarkable. In its six decades, the magazine has “turned out legions of gifted writers and editors,” notes the Wall Street Journal’s Barton Swaim. Who started their careers at The American Spectator? Writers and pundits like Greg Gutfeld, Ben Stein, Malcolm Gladwell, Matthew Walther, James Antle, George Will, David Frum, John Podhoretz, Bill Kristol, Byron York, and many more. Our magazine developed many of these writers as they were just starting. That tradition continues through our storied Young Writers Program.
Would you like to be a part of that? Join one of America’s leading conservative publications while gaining hands-on experience in nonprofit operations, fundraising, and emerging technology. Are you organized, eager to learn, and interested in how a national media organization operates behind the scenes? Join The American Spectator as a General Administrative Intern this fall.
Administrative interns will assist with the day-to-day operations that keep The American Spectator running. Responsibilities include maintaining donor and subscriber records, supporting fundraising and event planning, conducting research, assisting with office administration, and working with our team on special projects. Interns will gain experience with emerging technologies, including AI tools and graphic design software. If interested, there may also be opportunities to write for the magazine and help produce our weekly podcasts: The Spectacle Podcast and The Spectator P.M. Podcast.
Successful candidates should have strong organizational and communication skills, excellent attention to detail, and a willingness to learn new technologies. Familiarity with Salesforce or other customer relationship management (CRM) databases is preferred, though training will be provided for candidates eager to learn. Experience with graphic design software, AI tools, or digital content creation is a plus, but curiosity and a willingness to develop these skills are equally important. Applicants should enjoy working with people, communicating professionally with donors, subscribers, and colleagues, and be able to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
The internship runs from late August (start date is flexible) through December 1. We strongly prefer that interns serve in-person at our lovely, historic building in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, though exceptional remote candidates may be considered. This is a paid internship.
Interested college students and recent graduates should send a resume and a brief cover letter to madelynnm@spectator.org. Please direct any questions to the same address. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
