Film & Communications Intern

Part-time | 10–15 hours/week | Remote | Fall 2026
The Matthew Harris Ornstein Memorial Foundation is seeking a creative, organized, and motivated Film & Communications Intern to support our documentary film, communications, and social impact work.
The Foundation supports projects that strengthen democracy, civic engagement, education, and social justice. Our work includes documentary filmmaking, impact campaigns, partnerships with nonprofit and educational organizations, and public programming.
This is an excellent opportunity for a student or recent graduate interested in documentary film, communications, journalism, social impact, nonprofit organizations, or civic engagement to gain hands-on experience working with a small, mission-driven organization.
Responsibilities
The intern will work closely with the Foundation’s Director of Programming and Communications and may assist with:
- Supporting documentary film projects and their related impact campaigns
- Researching and developing relationships with potential nonprofit, educational, and community partners
- Supporting outreach to schools, universities, civic organizations, and other audiences
- Drafting and editing emails, social media content, newsletters, and other communications
- Researching organizations, funders, media outlets, and potential partners
- Helping coordinate documentary screenings, events, and other public programs
- Maintaining outreach and contact databases and tracking communications
- Supporting social media strategy and content development
- Assisting with research, writing, and preparation of presentations and other campaign materials
- Other communications, research, and administrative projects as needed
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who is:
- A strong writer and communicator
- Highly organized and detail-oriented
- Curious, resourceful, and comfortable conducting independent research
- Interested in documentary film, journalism, communications, education, democracy, or social impact
- Comfortable communicating professionally with external partners
- Able to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Proficient with Google Workspace and familiar with social media platforms
- Able to work independently while also collaborating closely with a small team
Film, communications, journalism, public policy, nonprofit management, education, or related majors are welcome, but we encourage students from all fields to apply.
Prior experience with documentary filmmaking, social media, communications, nonprofit organizations, or community outreach is a plus, but not required.
