The position serves as a Public Affairs Specialist in the Communications and Outreach Section, of the National Library Service for the Blind & Print Disabled Directorate in the Library Collections and Services Group at the Library of Congress. The position reports to the Head of the Communications and Outreach Section (COS).
The National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled (NLS) at the Library of Congress provides accessible materials for qualified individuals who, because of a visual or physical impairment are unable to read regular print materials. The Communications and Outreach Section (COS) at NLS is responsible for building brand awareness for NLS and its services and programs and for producing various collateral materials and publications, and maintaining multiple digital channels, to inform, educate and engage key audiences. Under the supervision of the Head of COS the Public Affairs Specialist will assist with all aspects of this outreach and engagement including the development of communications plans, producing content for both print materials and digital channels, and responding to requests from the public and key stakeholders. The incumbent will be capable of writing and editing various materials and communications, promoting NLS programs through media campaigns and direct, in-person, contact with various stakeholders and audiences, and responding via email and online to both internal and external stakeholders.
