Fiscal Policy Intern – Fall 2026

Organization: Independence Institute
Location: Denver, Colorado (Hybrid options may be available)

About Independence Institute

Founded in 1985, Independence Institute is a Colorado-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and a leading voice for individual liberty, free markets, and limited government. We offer full- and part-time internships during winter, spring, summer, and fall semesters. Alternate academic schedules can often be accommodated.

About the Fiscal Policy Center

The Fiscal Policy Center produces substantive policy analysis, educates the public, and promotes ideas rooted in fiscal responsibility, limited government, and economic freedom.

Interns assist the Center’s director with research and writing across a wide range of fiscal and tax policy issues, including:

  • State and municipal budgets
  • Tax and spending trends
  • Economic development incentives
  • Government fees and enterprises
  • Transportation, housing, healthcare, and education programs

Qualifications

  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills
  • Interest in free market and limited government policy
  • Basic understanding of microeconomics required
  • Knowledge of budgeting, tax policy, or accounting preferred
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines

Opportunities

Fiscal Policy interns may attend legislative hearings, community events, or policy discussions, and will gain valuable experience in public policy research and communications.
