At your request, advisors and peer career advisors (PCAs) on the Career and Professional Development staff may be able to visit classes and meetings to present on career related topics. Before your first request, please see details below; then complete the presentation request form.

WHO MAY REQUEST

  • VT faculty and staff
  • VT student organization representatives.

PRESENTATION LENGTH

Presentation length can be flexible, from 15 minutes to an hour.

REQUEST TIMING

Please make your presentation request at least two weeks in advance. Sometimes we are able to accommodate short-term requests, sometimes we're not. Please note we are heavily booked early in the semester and prior to job fairs.

INFO WE ASK OF YOU

In addition to basic request info such as date(s), start and end times, and location, the request form asks for information on the size and composition of your group — such as whether undergraduate or graduate level students, academic class levels of undergraduates, majors, etc.

WORKING WITH A SPECIFIC ADVISOR

If you have a working relationship with a member of our staff, feel free to reach out to that person directly to discuss your request. You will still need to complete the request form, and if your contact person has already consented to cover the presentation, you'll simply indicate that in the text box after "is this request... already... scheduled?" (Say "yes" and give the advisor's name. ;-)

TOPICS

The request form lets you select a primary and secondary topic. Topics include:

  • Backpack to briefcase
  • Career decision-making
  • Career exploration
  • Career fair prep
  • Cooperative Education & Internship Program
  • Dining etiquette
  • Federal job search
  • Health professions advising

IF WE CAN MEET YOUR REQUEST

If an advisor can accommodate your request, you will receive an email with the advisor's name and email address, asking you to contact the advisor to confirm details about the presentation.

IF WE CANNOT MEET YOUR REQUEST

If we are not able to accommodate your request, please consider referring students to presentations held during the semester, listed on our events calendar. We offer multiple sessions on resume writing, LinkedIn lab, career fair prep, job & internship search, intro to the co-op & internship program, and intro to health professions advising, and many other specialty career interest topics.
