Real World Trek for Engineering Students | Spring Break 2018

Dates: Mon.-Fri. March 5-9, 2108

Trip details:

  • Each day we will begin the trip from Blacksburg to visit local employers. Transportation and meals are provided.
  • Learn about internship and full-time job opportunities. 
  • Service component.
  • Pre-visit, one-hour professional development seminar. 
  • Visits funded by Career and Professional Development.

Employer visits:

  • Monday March 5: Visiting Framatome
  • Tuesday March 6: Visiting Torc and Rackspace
  • Wednesday March 7: Visiting Volvo and Somic America
  • Thursday March 8: Visiting Yokohama and Fontaine Modification
  • Friday March 9: Visiting Feeding America

To apply, please do the following by February 16, 2018:


  • To help develop confidence in talking to employers and networking.
  • Travel to companies' sites to learn about company culture, work environment, internships and full-time positions.
  • Gain a larger understanding of professional skills such as resume review, elevator pitch, interviewing and networking skills through meeting employers and professional development workshop.
  • Foster a better understanding of the university’s Aspirations for Student Learning such as Ut Prosim, Civility, and Self-Understanding, through employer visits and the service component of the trip.
  • Acquire Career and Professional Development competencies such as communication, global perspective, professionalism, and productivity.
