Career and Professional Development at Virginia Tech endorses the NACE Principles for Professional Practice for Career Services & Employment Professionals, and we ask our employer colleagues to voluntarily comply.
Position Statement About Campus Recruiting
Career and Professional Development at Virginia Tech provides and supports opportunities for students to explore and pursue a wide variety of career options. Among the opportunities afforded students are job postings, recruitment visits, and career fairs, all of which bring hundreds of prospective employers - including private businesses, non-profit organizations, and government agencies - to campus each year. Most of the career fairs on campus are sponsored and hosted by various departments, student organizations, and colleges at Virginia Tech. Career and Professional Development advertises these events and helps to prepare students to learn the job search skills to be successful at thses events. Career and Professional Development also hosts prospective employers in our facilities throughout the academic year so that these employers can conduct interviews with students through the On Campus Interviewing program, and Career and Professional Development enables employers to post jobs for students through Hokies4Hire.
Providing space for prospective employers on our public campus, and enabling employers to post jobs, does not imply an endorsement of the missions or activities of any visiting or posting organization. As an academic institution, we strongly encourage students to research information and options in order to make informed employment choices.
Employing organizations that recruit Virginia Tech students are expected to follow the Principles of Professional Practice for Employment Professionals established by the National Association of Colleges and Employers.
Students who believe an employer has not acted in accordance with professional standards in the job search process are asked to please contact us to discuss the matter!
Career and Professional Development expects students who are conducting a job search - whether for an internship, cooperative education position, or permanent position - to conduct themselves in an ethical and responsible manner.

Cancellation and closing policies and notices
If the university closes for all or any portion of a day [for weather or any other reason], Career and Professional Development must also close at the same times. Any events and services sponsored by our office that were scheduled to occur when the university closes are also cancelled.
If university is closed: While our staff would very much like to accommodate On-Campus Interviewing employers who have already traveled to Blacksburg prior to an emergency or weather-related closing, for safety reasons for students, for our staff, and for our guests, we are not able to be open during any type of university closing.
If university has late opening: On-Campus Interviewing will open when the university opens.
Employers or students with scheduled interviews: contact employer relations staff in advance if you have questions or anticipate travel problems due to weather.
For fairs not sponsored by CPD (and over which we have no control): For possible cancellations or rescheduling, consult the event website, the sponsoring organization, and the contact person for the specific event. The career fairs list has links to each event website where the sponsor should provide contact information.
